Cemex “Climafuel” Planning Application – Rejected

November 19, 2009

On Tuesday, 17 November 2009, Warwickshire County Council Regulatory Committee voted today to reject the application for the plant in Long Itchington but to approve the parallel (identical) application for Malpass Farm, Rugby.

We would like to thank all those who helped to defeat the application for Long Itchington – those who attended public meetings,  distributed leaflets, wrote to comment on the applications (over 180!), attended the hearing today – and those other councillors and villagers who spoke in defence of the village.

Whilst sympathetic to those who objected to the Rugby application, I truly believe that common sense prevailed.  If WCC believe that one of the sites must be be developed to help achieve the County’s recycling targets (we were against both sites being approved) then the sheer amount of unnecessary potential traffic between the village and Rugby helped to sway the decision away from Long Itchington.

Thank you all again on behalf of LIPC and the rest of the communities in the area!).

Proposed Cemex Fuel Plant Given Thumbs Down!

November 18, 2008

On Saturday, 15th November 2008, 200 residents from Long Itchington,  Marton, Princethorpe, Southam and Stockton expressed strong views condemning Cemex’s application to build a waste-derived alternative fuel plant at their Long Itchington site. Cemex Community Relations Manager, Ian Southcott, and Vice President UK, Carlos Uruchurtu, answered a barrage of questions, but Chris Hurt’s brilliant in-depth appraisal, available here, surely compels Cemex to look much harder at the Rugby Climafuel option.
